First real machine, dual boiler vs modern single boiler, shortlist inside [€2000]
Title: First real machine, dual boiler vs modern single boiler, shortlist inside [€2000]
Hey all. Long-time Bialetti user finally making the jump, and I've managed to research myself into complete paralysis. Would appreciate a reality check.
Location: Munich, Germany — so EU-available machines and dealers, please.
Budget: €2,000 max, machine only. Grinder is not part of this budget.
Preferred drink types: Mostly straight espresso, plus a cappuccino or latte macchiato a few times a week. Milk drinks matter enough that I don't want to wait around switching between brew and steam.
Drink frequency: Two espressos most mornings. I live alone. Friends over maybe once a month, so worst case 4 shots back to back — but that's rare, not the design case.
Space: Kitchen corner, angled rather than flush against the walls. There's a wall cabinet nearby with 46 cm of clearance, but given how deep these machines are, I think the group and lever would sit forward of it anyway. Mentioning it in case someone sees a problem I don't.
Experience level: Brand new to espresso. Years of Bialetti, so I know what I like in the cup, but I've never dialled in a shot, never steamed milk, never touched a portafilter.
Manual or electric: Electric machine. Grinder is currently a Timemore hand grinder (espresso version, fine click adjustment) — happy with it for now, planning to go electric single dose later.
What I think I've understood so far: A proper dual boiler seems to be the most capable setup, since brew temp becomes something you set rather than something you derive. At the same time, the newer single boilers with PID look genuinely good and heat up much faster. Happy to be corrected — most of this comes from shop visits and forum reading, not experience.
Candidates:
Profitec Move 2.0
Profitec Go 2.0
Lelit Mara X3
Lelit Bianca V3
Genuinely open to anything outside this list.
The struggle: Two specialty shops, two opposite answers. One told me Lelit build quality is a step below Profitec. The other pushed Rocket and said the Profitec was overkill. Gemini told me the Mara X3 was overkill for one person. Nobody agrees on anything.
Questions: Is the Lelit-vs-Profitec build quality thing real or just dealer talk? And is a brand new model a bad idea — should I wait for the first batch issues to shake out?
Thanks.
