How is this not illegal in 2026?
If conscription was done under any other circumstances, it would be considered indentured labour. At least the context in Greece, where I'm from. If anyone is confused by my profile pic, I'm trans. I was kinda... Not out then but weirdly androgynous, I have a condition where I never went through puberty. That didn't help. But frankly, if I wasn't trans, I'd still be dealing with this:
Why is it okay to take someone from their home for a year, cut them off from their loved ones and support systems, and control every aspect of their lives for a year, down to their appearance? Why is it okay to drip feed them days off to see those loved ones every month or two or even three months, and expect gratitude for it? Why is it okay to not only do all that, but expect loyalty and enthusiasm from the people you're doing this to??
Stupid extended family were telling me this would make me more patriotic. Like, what?? I used to LOVE Greece, I'd always get so excited to tell people where I'm from and now I hate to mention it because then they'll ask more about it and I hate it. I hate how, my parents and brother aside (They were brilliant, as I explained in other posts), most of my family, even with the best intentions, supported this. And thought I'd have a great time. Or appreciate where I'm from MORE??
I think the Hellenic military is a disgusting institution. My parents would say the same about the navy, which they both served in. They're disgusting institutions. I've cut up uniforms into rags, that year left me with constant intrusive thoughts and trauma and I feel an incomprehensible amount of hate for that military now. Every night it intrudes everything, I can't sleep or anything. I want fucking revenge.
