New literary translator looking for advice

Hello,

I have received an opportunity to translate a Japanese light novel from an editor. They offered a good rate per character standard page but I'm wondering about the pages with both illustrations and writing (the pages at the beginning with the characters info for example)... Do you count them on a different rate or the same as the standard looking pages?

Also, they don't know that it'd be my first translation for a publisher. How do I announce it and ask for clarifications without seeming too... beginner-ish? If you could give me general advice that'd be a great help.
