Sci-fi video games with the best plots [no spoilers, please]

Hi! I figured this would be the best spot to ask about sci-fi games that stand on their own as stories.

I'm eager to play some science fiction that is well worth remembering for its characters, prose, plots and overall narratives.

Any era is fine - great writing holds up far longer than graphics do! If you're wondering about my preferences, I veer toward space-based sci-fi, perhaps with some military aspects; and also cyberpunk in general. Additionally, I have a thing for mechs and sci-fi horror.

That said, I am wide open! I wouldn't want to limit myself. Thanks for your ideas.
