New AB license problems
Early last June, I went to a registry to renew my driver's license. I provided my valid Canadian passport, old licence, old paper AHS card, and proof of my Alberta address. All was fine; the agent gave me the temporary paper document and told me I should get the card in the mail within 4 weeks. After four weeks, I went back to the registry: nothing they could do; back at the five-week mark, still nothing. Back again at the six-week mark: nothing. A week later, at the seven-week mark, I was told to wait another week and come back if I didn't receive the card. The following week, eight weeks after my initial visit, I went back, and the agent told me my card had been issued and mailed but had been returned to the sender. The agent checked my name and address on file, both correct, and requested the issuance of a duplicate card. I finally received my new driver's license yesterday; the personal information and driver's license number on the card appear correct, and the card says "duplicate" on the front. But it does not have the citizenship marker on the front and does not show my personal health care number on the back or anywhere else, for that matter.
I don't have time to go back to the registry today, as I am flying tonight and will be outside of Canada for two months -I have a valid passport, so I don't need my license to board my flight. But what would you recommend I do? I drive long-distance for a living, sometimes for weeks on end, so I am dreading wasting time going back to the registry again and again and again to sort this out when I come back to Calgary.
