I forgot how to date lol (need insights)
Hey guys I'm 24(F) and it's been 2-3 years since I last dated. I decided to focus on completing my degree and taking long-term internships in between so I never really had the time to think about being with someone during those years.
I recently opened a dating profile and has been chatting with this guy for only a few days which we're actually going on our first date in 2 days.
I was assessing our first few conversations and I realized I may have overshared a bit especially about my complex family dynamic. We were talking about where we grew up, very simple, and I responded something like "The reason I've never been back to my hometown for almost 10 years because of complexities on my dad's side of family".
Then when we talked on the phone, the conversation also went- me saying "My parents had a lot of misunderstandings and were separated for some time before we all moved here". This was from the conversation where he asked about my dad but I said my dad passed away when I was 15 and then I also said I grew up with him so we had to be away from my mom for a long time.
And we've never even met yet and so I just realized I may have overshared but when we talked about our families and childhood, I just don't have any other reasons for it about my dad's passing and whatnot. He said, "Thank you for being open."
I've always been insecure with my family dynamic and I also don't like lying esp my mindset in dating is "a potential to be my long-term partner".
He seems nice but I also don't want to be an open-book especially that we're only getting to know each other. I forgot how conversations in dating should go 😂 So any insights would help!
