MK closing early 4 of our 6 nights - any advice?

Looking for some advice from the Disney World experts here!

My MIL planned a big family Disney trip for 12 of us more than a year ago. We’re staying at Wilderness Lodge and have park passes for November 29–December 4, 2026, with plans to spend a lot of our time at Magic Kingdom.

This trip is especially meaningful to her. She lost both of her parents, who were huge Disney fans and took their family to Disney World throughout her childhood. She decided to use a big part of her inheritance to bring the family back, including several kids who will be experiencing Disney for the first time.

One of the things she has been most excited about is having evenings at Magic Kingdom — seeing the castle at night, fireworks, Tinker Bell’s flight, etc.

She called Disney recently about something completely unrelated and found out that Magic Kingdom is closing early for special events on 4 of the 6 nights we’re there. She genuinely had no idea when she booked the trip, and she is pretty devastated. We totally understand that Disney has separately ticketed holiday events. The frustrating part is that had she known when she planned everything that regular ticket holders would lose the evening at MK for four of our six nights, she probably would have chosen different dates.

So… what would you do?

Is it worth calling Disney/Guest Services and explaining the situation? Has anyone ever had luck getting some kind of accommodation or resort credit, ticket adjustment, discounted party tickets, etc.? We’re not looking to demand something unreasonable, but this is a very expensive trip for 12 people and it feels like a pretty significant change to what she thought she was booking.

Would really appreciate any advice, I want to help her with this in the best possible way! Thanks in advance.
