FFS... Threatening a 3-day pay cut because I didn't sprint a dropped knife to the pit mid-rush?

Kitchen fuckery

I need to vent before I lose my fucking mind.

We were in the middle of a heavy rush, tickets piling up, and I’m up to my neck in orders. To make matters worse, my station partner didn't prep shit for backups, so I’m holding down the line and doing backup prep at the same time.

I drop a knife on the line floor. Basic food safety—it’s dirty, I’m not using it, end of story. I set it aside on the counter to take to the dish pit the second I clear the current board.

Out of nowhere, this waitress/hostess—who suddenly acts like she’s the damn floor supervisor—sees it, gives me this wide-eyed, cringing look like I just killed someone, and starts barking at me to take it to the dishwasher right this second.

I’m literally murdering tickets. I can't just abandon the line mid-rush to go run a single knife to dish when I've already taken it out of service. I ignored her chatter so I could keep plating food, planning to run it to dish as soon as the ticket board was clear.

So what does she do? She runs straight to the manager

And the manager—absolute genius—comes over and threatens to cut my salary by 3 full days for "not adhering to food safety."

Are you fucking kidding me?

I didn't use the dirty knife. It was completely out of rotation.

Expecting a line cook to leave active tickets during a push to walk one tool to dish is brain-dead management.

I'm stuck on a fixed-term contract with 15 months left in this absolute shithole, so I have to bite my tongue and endure it for now. But Jesus Christ, the sheer incompetence of FOH power-tripping and management threatening illegal/bullshit pay cuts over basic kitchen prioritizing is driving me insane.

End of rant. Need a smoke.
