School event

Apparently we're not allowed to bring "negativity" to the class group chat so I'm going to rant here.

I'm a student in college (it's not technically a university but in my country we have special schools for those that wish to become teachers, there's no other option really so to us it counts as college). We "major" in specific subjects then we go on to teach middle/high school.

My department is in charge of hosting this stupid event every single year, that requires us to be there ALL DAY. We ALL have to help in some way, wear nice clothes (oh boy do I love this part as a tomboy and queer person), be polite to guests, and be super positive. It's my first time participating and I'm already so fucking over it.

I'm neurodivergent and don't do well in this type of event where I have to mask, look my best and stand around for like 12 hours taking pictures and helping around. I can do maybe 5 hours but after that I usually get panicky, emotional and very noticeably irritable. I don't know how "normal" people do it but I fucking hate this, I don't want to go but my grades and my future depend on being there every single year from now on...

I made a stupid joke in the gc and some others followed, it was kinda lame looking back but it was just that, we weren't trying to offend anyone. Well we unleashed the beasts within our class rep and some other people that have been decorating and organizing this shit for the past few days, one guy insulted me and then came the backhanded and passive-aggressive comments directed at those who dared complain that we'd have to spend the entire fucking day entertaining random ass losers who have nothing better to do on a Saturday than to attend our event. How dare we! I guess all that shit about wanting everyone to feel comfortable expressing themselves was a lie lol. Oh and it's supposed to rain all day, great.

Anyway, we did apologize but it wasn't enough, everyone's still mad. And they're complaining that no one's helping them, that they've stayed at the event site until like 2am doing stuff, etc. But we didn't even know? I'm in like 10 different group chats (all related to my school) and it's impossible to keep track of everything, there's dozens if not hundreds of messages every day, but I went to check and never even saw anyone ask for more people to help? I'm sorry I can't read your mind, you stupid bitch.

If we had a choice, most of us would not be participating. It's lame, we're tired adults with jobs, responsibilities and families to take care of. The last thing we need is more forced interactions and toxic positivity.

Then they have the nerve to ask "what are you gonna do when you're a teacher and HAVE to entertain your kids, participate in school events, etc.???" Bitch if I wanted my kids to feel entertained I would've gone to clown school or something. I'm going to be one of those teachers that goes to class, TEACHES, and then fucking leaves. I don't give a fuck about anything else. I will love my students as much as the next gal but I'm not their mommy and I won't waste time trying to "connect" with the useless brats that obviously don't want to be there either. And no, I don't care about bringing "whimsy" to their lives, they have parents for that.
