September is the sleeper month for travel — shoulder-season prices, thinner crowds, and a packed events calendar
Summer chaos is over, prices are dropping back to earth, and the weather is still holding up almost everywhere. A few spots worth it this month: Lisbon (fewer crowds, easier reservations), Kyoto (quiet before the autumn-foliage rush), Split/Dalmatian Coast (still warm, ferries less packed), and Santorini (Aegean's still warm, crowds thinning after August).
On the events side — TIFF runs Sept 10–20 in Toronto, Fashion Month hits NY → London → Milan → Paris starting Sept 10, and European Heritage Days opens up historic sites across France, England, Germany and the Netherlands for free mid-to-late month.
It's also peak season for students moving abroad — landing connected in the first 48 hours (maps, translation, calling home) matters more than people expect before that first week hits.
