Slow recovery after hysterectomy + prolapse repair?

Hello, All! I am 4 weeks post-op after a da Vinci hysterectomy (removal of uterus + fallopian tubes + cervix + 1.5 pound fibroid) and prolapse repair (sacrocolpopexy + sling). I had a catheter for two days and still have stitches in my perineum.

After reading many, many helpful posts in this group, I have been taking it very easy. I've only been in a car four times (three of them were doctors' visits and one was to drop something off at a friend's house)—only as a passenger.

I mostly spend the entire day in bed. I am lucky to be able to work from home and am most comfortable in a very loungy position on my bed with a laptop tray. I am very uncomfortable in a normal, upright seated position (even with a donut pillow).

I try to get up and move every 30-60 minutes, even if it's just to go to the bathroom or refill my water. I can make simple meals for myself. I have been adhering to all the restrictions, like not bending down to pick up things or carrying anything more than 5 pounds.

I take short walks around the neighborhood 2-3 times a day and have been averaging about 3,000 steps a day. I walk very slowly and carefully (it's quite similar to my 97 year-old grandfather!).

My abdomen is still incredibly bloated. I still feel weird shifting in there and some tugs and pulls. I am not really in any pain; it's more like discomfort and strange sensations.

I went in for my 4-week appointment with the urologist who did the surgery, and they decided—based on the progress of my healing—that I should extend my restrictions from 6 weeks to 8 weeks instead. My stitches are still dissolving and I still have inflammation/irritation. They started me on vaginal estrogen and said it should help.

I'm feeling really discouraged because I feel like I've done everything right. I spent the entire summer getting as healthy as possible before the surgery (I'm 48 years-old). And I've been following all of the guidelines very carefully since the surgery. There was only one day when I tried to walk an extra loop in my neighborhood, and it caused immense pain in my urethra when I got back home.

I know that healing from these kinds of surgeries is individualized and there's not a specific, one-size-fits-all timeline, but I have read so many stories of people getting back to normal so much more quickly.

Where are the people whose timeline took longer? Has anyone else had their restrictions extended because their healing was taking longer? Will I ever stop looking pregnant?

Please chime in! Thank you in advance for your help :-)
