MOHELA payment start date vs. first scheduled due date

I’m trying to figure out how MOHELA is handling my transition into a new IDR repayment plan, particularly because I’m pursuing PSLF.

I was previously in SAVE forbearance, and I have now been approved for a new IDR plan (RAP). I have several pieces of information from MOHELA that seem confusing:

  • My online MOHELA account says my administrative forbearance ends October 7, 2026.
  • One document from MOHELA says my **“**payment start date” is 10/07/26. This is the document that says I have a new repayment plan and gives the schedule for how long I’ll be in the plan and what my payment will be if I don’t recertify my income.
  • However, my IDR approval letter says “First Scheduled Due Date: 11/07/26.”
  • I also received a notice confirming that I’m enrolled in Auto Pay, and it shows that $350 will be taken out in October.

So what is actually my first payment date?

Is October 7 simply the date my new payment amount/repayment plan becomes effective, with my first actual payment due November 7? Or is MOHELA’s Auto Pay going to take the $350 payment out in October even though my IDR approval letter says my first scheduled due date is November 7?

I’m especially interested in how this works because of PSLF. I don’t want to make a payment in October if November 7 is actually my first payment due date, but I also don’t want to accidentally miss an October payment if one is actually required.

Has anyone had a similar situation with MOHELA?
