Is it a thing to completely ignore MSQ? Or is there a way to experience the game mostly in party?

I've played ff14 about 3-4 years ago and from what I remember the main shtick was to just do the story (I didn't have a guild tho) and in order to progress through story you need to disband party and do solo scenarios. Now I play MMOs with my wife and we are doing things as a party 99% of the time, and doing solo story would be honestly a big enough turn off for us to ever try the game.

So, is there a way to progress through the game without interacting with MSQ much? Or maybe it's possible now to do story together?
