my boyfriend is puerto rican and i want to learn more about his culture

for preference, we’re both in our 20s :)

i honestly don’t know a whole lot about puerto rico or puerto rican culture and i’d really like to change that. i care about him a lot and i think it’d be nice to understand and appreciate the culture he grew up around rather than just knowing the basics or not learning at all

i’d love to hear about things like food, music, traditions, holidays, family traditions, childhood things or even little everyday things that you think someone who isn’t puerto rican might not know about!! i’m especially interested in things that feel genuinely puerto rican and not just touristy stereotypes if that makes sense

i’d also love to eventually surprise him with some things that remind him of home or his culture, so if there are foods, snacks, candies, music, gifts, etc. that you think would be meaningful or nostalgic, i’d really appreciate any suggestions!! unfortunately i can’t remember what part of puerto rico his family is from.
