my ex texted me that he wants to try again but not now, is my ex waiting for me or not?

me and my ex broke up mutually a little over a month ago. we started getting more frustrated with each other and we werent really communicating well. we texted a few times since. he has said things like i miss you, and that he will always care about me. we texted around 3 weeks ago, and he said that he wasnt going to wait for me and i shouldnt either, but he said the possibility to get back together is open.

now a week ago, i missed him and texted him… i asked if he would be open to going out sometime, like a first date to see how we feel. he said that he wants to see change first. hes going to therapy and i am too now, and he said he wants to see me committed to getting better, and same goes for him. he also said that he wants to try again, but he needs more time to see what he wants and what he needs.

i feel like im stuck. i want to let go but it feels like i cant because i know we both want to try things again. i dont know if hes also trying to move on, or if hes waiting for me.
