How to automatically export a group of samples from a single audio source
Use case: You have an audio track containing many samples and you want to get the samples as separate files.
- Open the file in Audacity (free)
- Select the entire waveform in the UI
- Navigate to Analyze > Label Sounds
- Make sure "Peak level" and "Region around sounds" are selected
- Set the following
- Threshold level -40.0
- Minimum silence duration to 0.500s
- Minimum label interval 0.010s
- Set label text to ##1 to output as "001", "002", etc
- Hit Apply
- Verify that the samples were cropped correctly. If not, you may need to adjust Minimum silence duration to be smaller if the samples or closer than expected. You may need to adjust threshold level if the samples are quieter than expected or the background level is loud.
- When the samples are cropped correctly, navigate to File > Export Audio
- In the Export Audio dialog, ignore File Name, select the Format and Audio options for the export audio clips.
- Set the following
- Export Range: "Multiple Files"
- Split files based on: "Labels"
- Name files: "Using Label/Track Name".
- Hit the Export button to save the clips as files in the format you selected.
