So this happened….

Experience

Has anyone gotten a yeast infection/rash under after surgery? I had my bilateral salpingectomy on August 3rd, so I’m almost 6 weeks post-op. My incisions have honestly been healing really well and I haven’t had any major issues. Tonight I noticed that underneath my belly apron, where one of my incisions is, the skin was REALLY red and irritated and smelled pretty bad. It scared the hell out of me because I thought there was pus coming from my incision or that I had developed an infection, so I ended up going to the ER to get it checked out.
The doctor checked it and said there was actually no pus and that it looks like a yeast infection. He said because my belly apron folds over that area, it stays moist and hasn’t been able to properly dry or get enough air. He told me to keep it dry and let it breathe as much as possible, including being naked at home and laying down so I can lift/separate the fold and actually get air underneath it.
I’m just surprised because I’m almost 6 weeks out from surgery and everything had been looking completely normal. I don’t have pain, burning, warmth, or anything like that. It occasionally itches, but the redness and smell are what freaked me out.
Has anyone else with a belly apron had this happen, either after laparoscopic surgery or just from moisture getting trapped underneath it? How long did it take to clear up, and what helped you keep the area dry and prevent it from coming back?
I’m glad I went and got it checked because I genuinely thought my incision was infected 😭
