When did ChatGPT’s memory stop remembering?

I started using ChatGPT in 2024 and it seemed to remember everything. Even when I deleted the chat and made a new one, it would seemingly remember everything about me and I was very impressed.

As of September 2026, it will remember a very obscure thing that I said several months ago and that’s it. I’ll ask it a simple fact, like how old am I? It states that it doesn’t have my age on file even though I’ve given it countless times.

So I tell it my age repeatedly. It says, “Great, I’ve saved that to my memory. I now know your age”.

I start a new chat. I ask how old am I? It states that it ‘doesn’t know my age and doesn’t have it on file, but I remember this incredibly obscure fact that you mentioned maybe four months ago’.

Is it like this for the paid version too? Or is this strictly a downgrade for the free version?
