Someone is using my companies name to commit fraud. What should I do?

Legal Advice Needed

Hello everyone,

For the past 2 weeks, I've been receiving calls from different people claiming that they have paid money for goods but never received them.

Whenever I ask them what goods they ordered or who they were dealing with, they tell me that they spoke to someone named Avesh Gupta, who apparently introduced himself as the co-founder of my company.

The problem is, my company is a proprietorship, and I am the sole proprietor. There is no co-founder, partner, or authorised person named Avesh Gupta associated with my company.

Some of these people have apparently paid either an advance or the full amount for goods. When I ask them where they transferred the money, I find out that they have transferred it to a personal bank account/UPI account, which obviously does not belong to my company.

They then ask me how the fraudster had my company's GST details and address. As far as I understand, GST details and registered business addresses are publicly available, so I'm assuming someone is using this information to make themselves look legitimate and gain people's trust.

This has been happening repeatedly for the past two weeks, and I'm concerned that someone is actively impersonating my company and using its name and GST details to commit fraud.

I have not received any money from these people, I have not supplied or promised them any goods, and I have absolutely no connection with this person named Avesh Gupta.

What should I do legally in this situation?

Any legal advice would be appreciated. I'm mainly worried about protecting myself and ensuring that I don't end up being held responsible for someone else's fraud just because they are using my company's name and publicly available GST details.
