DockyHub Version 1.5

Pinned

Hi All,

A new version of DockyHub is in review and should be available soon in the beta channel. Shout out to all of you who are using the app and providing feedback it's been super valuable. If you have landed on this post by chance or fate?? then you can install the app right now via the TestFlight link

On to what's new in this update.

Headline - New Countdown Card
The major new feature in this release is the new Countdown card. This card allows you to add a countdown to an event. If you have an exciting or important event coming up you can now place this card directly on your dashboard and it will show a countdown till that event. The Countdown card even supports multiple instances. That means if you want to display multiple events you can add as many as you want to your dashboard.

To get started just download the new version of DockyHub and you will find the all new Countdown card in the add card dialog when editing your dashboard.

Trivia Questions

Pre this release DockyHub only had about 30 trivia questions built-in. 1.5 ups this to 400! All the new questions are family friendly suitable for all ages and cover a broad range of topics from nature, geography, general knowledge and more. There is no action to take here, new questions will just appear in cycle of trivia questions. Good luck to all and I hope you can keep those trivia streaks going.

Mac OS
You caught me off guard with this one. Some of you have installed DockyHub to your Macs and this is amazing! However, before this I didn't realise you could install iPad apps on Macs, so I was surprised to see DockyHub running on those devices. Of course after finding this out I gave it a go myself haha. Straight away I saw a few small issues. One particular immediate issue was the main navigation bar. On Mac there is no way to set your orientation and because of this DockyHub was getting a little confused where to put the navigation bar and defaulting it to the bottom. There was also no way to change orientation.

This release adds some limited changes to better support Mac. When running DockyHub on Mac you will now get a new option in the setting menu under general.

This allows you to set DockyHub to portrait or landscape orientation. This means you can now control where you want navigation bar. This release also fixes some small content display issues that I noticed while using it.

Just a note. At the moment Mac support is not official or is officially unofficial. I'll continue to make some changes to help support DockyHub when running on Mac however my focus and official support is towards iPad devices. However if you are enjoying using DockyHub on your Mac let me know and I'm happy to receive feedback.

Usability

The dashboard has some small usability tweaks to make editing your dashboard smoother. Now when you are in edit mode the dashboard title will transition to show tips. This is provide better clarity to new and existing users on how edit and move cards around.

Telemetry
These changes are more under the hood however I want to talk about them here because they relate to the event info collected by the app. With DockyHub I want to make privacy very transparent and make sure you the users are aware of any data collected. This is why DockyHub has had from version 1.0 the ability to view the raw telemetry data directly in the app itself. It also gives you the option to completely disable telemetry if you so choose. DockyHub's stance on privacy is transparency and that personal data stays yours. This means DockyHub only collects anonymous events that doesn't include your personal content or any identifying information. This includes turning off cross session tracking and uses a randomly generated id's in telemetry requests which are regenerated every time the app restarts. Anyway enough chatter and onto the actual changes in this release. However, one final note. If you have not already found it yet you can view this data under setting -> privacy.

Dashboard Snapshot
This new event collects what cards your have configured upon editing and what cards you have once editing is completed. The event only collects the name of the cards on your dashboard i.e Countdown Card, Calendar Card etc never the information displayed on the cards themselves. I added this event so that I can better understand which cards users are putting on their dashboard. Before this I could only see if you added/configured a card and removed a card. This made it hard to actually tell which cards user were using on the dashboard itself.

Dashboard Activeness
This new event fires every 30mins. It collects info within this time period about how many times the dashboard was active, how many mins it was on screen and how many mins the app was in standby mode. I added this because my current events only really showed which cards you configured but not if you were actually interacting with them on the dashboard. This means I would only see an event when you reconfigured your dashboard which for app like DockyHub can be very infrequent once everything is setup. This event helps me better answer questions around how frequently users are using the dashboard (if at all haha).

New Events
There is a new event for the new Countdown card. This is in line with the other events already in the app that captures when you configure the card.

If you want to see more about DockyHub privacy stance you can read more at the DockyHub site
https://dockyhub.com/privacy or if you have any concerns about anything please feel free to ask about it here.

The new release should be available in the next 24 hours depending on how quickly apple approves it.

Let me know what you think and if you have any feedback use the in app feedback option or just post about it here. Again thank you to everyone who is already using DockyHub and if you are new here then welcome :-)
