**Yesterday 11 September was also the birthday of actor** [**Yao Guan Yu**](https://mydramalist.com/people/113757-yao-guan-yu)**!** He is 30 years old this year, [making him exactly 3 years older than **Ma Qiu Yuan**](https://www.reddit.com/r/CShortHaven/comments/1we65c6/happy_belated_birthday_to_ma_qiu_yuan/).

When I first started watching his dramas, I thought he resembled Korean singer-songwriter **Bang Yong Guk** (the leader of the K-pop group B.A.P)! If you check out his [MDL profile](https://mydramalist.com/people/113757-yao-guan-yu), you might be surprised to find out that he actually debuted as a singer earlier under the stage name Shao Ting, as a former member of the boy group ZERO-G.

While I knew he had sung and danced at awards or variety shows before, his recent birthday celebration completely left me speechless! [Yesterday evening, he held a full birthday concert in Beijing, singing 18 songs in a row and effortlessly switching between various musical styles](https://weibo.com/1796087453/5342104727324586). Even though he is widely known today as a short drama actor, it was amazing to see his singer roots on display. Many of the songs performed were written and composed by himself, alongside OSTs from his own short dramas!

The last drama of his that I watched was [**White Night Peril**](https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E7%99%BD%E5%A4%9C%E5%8D%B1%E6%83%85/67368812). It was such a refreshing story with Yao Guan Yu playing the antagonist criminal opposite **Lan Lan**'s police character. I thought he was perfectly cast as a sociopath, and that ending was completely unpredictable!

To celebrate his birthday, I plan to catch up on his drama watchlist this week. His collaboration with **Zhao Xi Xi** in [**Spring Harbor Night Rain**](https://www.duanjubaike.net/duanju/info-7611460221449276440.html) has been on my watchlist for quite some time, and I can't wait to jump into it.
