Scottish consultants moving toward a strike ballot - first time for doctors there
The Scottish consultants committee is preparing to ballot on industrial action, which would be a first for doctors in Scotland. Bredski's line about the government banking on consultants working beyond agreed roles to keep services afloat is the bit that lands for me - it's the same goodwill argument that's been made across the UK for years, and it's hard to see how reorganisation plans square with that. Pay erosion of 23% since 2008 is the headline figure, but the refusal to even enter talks on working conditions seems to be what's pushed this forward. The SAS committee is already in dispute and meets on 16 September. For those of us outside Scotland, does a ballot there change anything about how the pay review body or DDRB conversations play out elsewhere?
