AI is changing what I think a good search result even is

Google trained me for years to think good search meant options. You search something, open a handful of links, skim a few, go back, change the wording if none of them are quite right.

For a human that's fine because I'm doing the filtering myself.

with agents, I'm starting to think I want almost the opposite.

If an agent has to read 15 loosely related pages just to figure out that three of them actually matter, that's a lot of unnecessary work before the real task even starts.

I've been using AnySearch as part of that experiment and it's changed what I pay attention to. I care less about how many results were retrieved and more about how quickly useful information made it into the agent's context.

Once the user of search becomes an AI instead of a human, I'm not sure the old definition of a good search result still makes much sense.
