New CNA thinking about LVN → RN — is this a good path?
Hi everyone! I recently started working as a new CNA, mostly on the NOC shift. So far, I actually like the job and I’m getting more comfortable with it, but I know I don’t want to stay a CNA forever.
There is an opportunity for me to move up at my current facility, but I’ve also been thinking about going to LVN school first. From what I’ve looked into, LVN seems like it would be cheaper, take less time, and potentially be easier to manage while working compared to going straight into an RN program.
My thought is to become an LVN first, work as an LVN for a while, and then if I decide I want to continue, do an LVN-to-RN bridge program.
For those who have taken this route, what do you think? Is LVN → RN a good path, or would you recommend going straight for RN if possible?
Also, is it realistically doable to work while going through LVN school? I’m especially wondering about working NOC shifts while attending school.
Would really appreciate hearing from people who have actually gone through it!
