🚨URGENT: Facing illegal employer intimidation/threats in Qatar. Need legal advice/guidance.🚨🚨🚨
Hi everyone,
I am writing this in distress and urgently need advice from anyone familiar with Qatar Labor Law, legal experts, or anyone with the right knowledge who can guide me.
My Situation:
- Background: I was originally hired as an Administrative Assistant with IT skills in November. After completing my probation period, my company gave me almost no work. When I told them my tasks were finished, they forced me to sign a "replacement paper" to take over a sales role for a colleague going on vacation, threatening to fire me if I didn't sign.
- The New Offer: I recently secured a much better job offer for 6,500 QAR (my current salary is only 3,500 QAR).
- The Threat: Today, I handed my physical resignation letter to HR. The HR manager rejected it, claiming I cannot leave because I have a 2-year contract and signed the replacement paper. When I told him I would proceed by resigning officially through the Ministry of Labour (MOL) portal, he explicitly threatened me, saying word-for-word: "A lot of bad things will happen to you."
What I Have Done So Far:
- I have sent the physical resignation letter via WhatsApp to HR as written proof, stating that my official 1-month notice period starts today.
- I am preparing to log into the MOL portal to submit my official job transfer notification.
I have worked incredibly hard to earn this new opportunity and better my life, and I am terrified that this company will try to ruin my status or falsely file an absconding (Huroob) case against me out of malice.
How you can help me:
If there are any legal professionals, Qatari nationals, or anyone who has successfully navigated a toxic employer threat like this, please drop a comment or send me a direct message (DM). I need to know the safest way to protect myself from their retaliation while I serve my 1-month notice.
Thank you so much in advance for your support.
