Fusion surgery (foot) - any tips?

I did a quick search but couldn’t find previous posts relating to this specific question. Here goes!

I have stage 4 bone on bone osteoarthritis in the talonavicular joint (right foot). Diagnosed 5 years ago, getting steadily worse since. Been in orthotics and Hoka Bondi shoes for a year and had a cortisone shot, but it only gave me around 3 months’ relief so my podiatric surgeon wants me to have the fusion surgery.

I have to see an orthopaedic surgeon since my insurance won’t cover surgery or hospital stays linked to podiatric surgeons - thank you, health care system. Seeing the surgeon this week and I know he’ll give me the basics. I’m looking for first hand experiences from people who have had the fusion surgery, particularly people who’ve had a foot operated on. Any tips for surviving the initial recovery period, how to get around more easily at home, how long you initially spend in hospital etc would be greatly appreciated!
