Why Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is Harder than you think. Reason 1: The Gorilla Trekking Trails
Most people have no idea how hard it is to trek gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. One might see videos of visitors walking on trails in the forest but that doesn't give the whole picture. The name Bwindi Impenetrable should give one a clue about the difficulty of trekking in a forest that is doubly name "Impenetrable" becasue the word "Bwindi" literally means impenetrable.
Gorilla trekking is one of the toughest hiking experiences one can encounter because trekkers have to go off the trails and into the lush undergrowth of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
This is because gorillas spend their day moving as they forage in the forest so they move far away from the trails. Gorillas have no obligation staying in a place that gives humans easy access. So they often move far and deep into the forest where trekkers have to go up steep slopes and cut through undergrowth and walk through running streams as they search for gorillas.
The trekking is especially tougher during the rainy season where the streams are numerous and the forest is muddy.
