Weird visual bug ive been seeing using rifles while in vats

In my game, using a rifle while in vats, character will not use the "aim down sights" animation, but will instead use the "hip fire" animation. Still aims down sights for pistols, which is weird. Really bugs me whenever I play a rifle centric playthrough and he just hip fires through vats. Anyone else experience this?
