Patagonia Black Hole 32 super short straps & overall comfort

Discussion

I needed a backpack and had heard a lot of good things about the BH32. I really liked the idea of one large main cavity and a big top pocket, but when I tried it on in-store, I realized how short the straps are. I'm a fairly large bloke — 189 cm tall, about 100 kilos of pure dad bod — and it felt like trying on a size medium shirt: super tight and uncomfortable. Even with the straps fully extended, it was still tight.

The bag was stuffed with some kind of plastic bag full of air to make it look full, but that also made the back panel balloon out, which added to the discomfort.

Not sure if this is user error on my part, or if these bags just aren't built for taller/larger-framed people. Any larger blokes who have experience with BH32?

Any other 30+ liter backpacks I should consider (I hate clamshell openings and prefer one large space to fill with packing cubes and pouches)?

Thanks Reddit!
