My husband doesn’t express his love for me.

My husband (30M) and I (30F) have been married for two years and were dating for 9 years before that. Ever since we got married, I tell him every now and then how we are a unit now and I put him first. In general, I am vocal about my feelings for him (what I like about him, all the great ways in which he changed my life, etc). He is not expressive and that has me feeling insecure about my place in his life. What makes it worse is that he is very expressive towards his family and friends. Last week I told him that I need reassurances and words of affirmation to feel loved. He pointed out the things he planned for my birthdays as his way of showing love. Am I wrong to need more?
