Theory: The Pattern is Jesse's fault.

SpoilerDiscussion

And The Pattern is actually none other than Hedron. The entire crisis was orchestrated by Jesse in an attempt to strike against The Hiss, The Mold and most importantly, The Board all at the same time, no matter who gets caught in the crossfire.

That's why The Board woke Dylan up and say that:

The Sibling has gone rogue/fishing.
The Director/Entity/Final Boss is operating outside jurisdiction/local spacetime. (from early revealed gameplay)

The Foundation DLC ended with Jesse turning against The Board and not trusting whatever long-term plans they might have for the FBC/the world/humanity. I mean, it is heavily implied that they are parasites that latched onto the Oldest House. The question is: how would someone defeat them? Well, by fighting paranatural fire with paranatural fire and creating her OWN paranatural entity!

One interesting thing that both Polaris and The Pattern share is that....they form a pattern. They are the order to Hiss' chaos and Polaris' chant is:

Grow brighter. Around one constant, they revolve...

As in...grow into a force that would encompass Manhattan? After all, in The Lake House DLC, we do see Polaris' effect in Dylan's teaser and one of the very early files we can find directly says THIS.

Observation teams have detected fluctuations in the REDACTED field originating from The Oldest House as of REDACTED, increasing in strength as it loops through a specific pattern every REDACTED hours.

That's right! This implies that The Pattern came FROM The Oldest House and the only paranatural entity we know of, Polaris, would be the reasonable cause. Not only that but from what we know so far based on released early gameplay, Zoe reveals that they were tracking the event days in advance.

You knew the lockdown would fail?

Which would line up with Jesse seemingly ALREADY being gone from The House before the lockdown even fell, lining up with how Polaris got her past the lockdown INTO The House in Control 1! She could have left at any time!

Director Faden, please make contact immediately.

Essentially, Jesse became Trench 2.0. Trench let in The Hiss based on paranoia that Hedron would destroy the FBC and Jesse created/caused The Pattern because she thought that The Board has ulterior plans that need to be stopped. I mean, we kind-of see it in Firebreak too where Jesse authorized the use of Altered Items for combat. Her unleashing a supernatural force to defeat another supernatural force wouldn't be out of character in the slightest.

But, the question is, how did she exactly turn Polaris into The Pattern? The two look VERY different. Well, it may have something to do with what was revealed in the most recent Remedy video, the Control 1 recap.

I bound The Slide Projector to myself.

And since The Slide Projector is an OOP, it would make sense that it can be bound. So maybe, she went to Slidescape-36 and opened the door, just like Trench did, which allowed The Hiss to seep into The House. Except this time, it was Hedron resonance and it got so big in quantity that it "mutated" into The Pattern. The Board panicked, woke up Dylan and presumably went after Jesse themselves too (since the Black Pyramid is gone from Central which we can see in the Security short).

And one final piece of evidence to this theory would be the pigeons. The Pattern is OBSESSED with the birds, we see it constantly in the trailers, shorts, released early gameplay and it's so noteworthy that the FBC specifically warns against these looping pigeons in their Safety Guide!

The FBC even go as far to specifically label pigeons as a major separate threat in the audio log.

We have received reports from multiple cities of unprecedented flocks of pigeons repeating endlessly due to a reality distortion. The FBC are working hard to return the pigeons to their stable state. Do not feed the pigeons under any circumstances. This may result in unpredictable escalations such as uncontrolled infinite flocking.

But that got me thinking. Maybe this is important. Since pigeons are linked to The Pattern so much and are even labeled as their own separate sub-threat caused by The Pattern on the FBC presentation, what is the meaning here? Well, pigeons often symbolise or represent peace, love and protection. and Polaris is often labeled as (Jesse's) "guiding star", both in Control by Alan and in AW2 by Warlin Door. This is simply The Pattern (accumulated Hedron/Polaris resonance) trying to communicate (in a much more eldritch way) that it still cares for Jesse, which is both sweet and horrifying at the same time.

And it would make sense that Jesse would resort to doing this. Dylan was in a coma, The Hiss overwhelmed the House to the point of collapse, some employees declared a vote of no-confidence and were turning against her as we learn in Firebreak, The Board is breathing down her neck, The Former is...dubiously trustworthy and she has NO CLUE how to permanently stop The Hiss.

They gave me the task of stopping The Hiss...whatever the fuck that meant.

It makes sense that she would turn to THE ONLY PERSON that she could unquestionably rely on and turned her into...this...to try and take care of everything. The FBC already weren't thrilled with using Altered Items for combat in Firebreak, how would they react if they knew that their Director unleashed an extremely powerful entity, like Trench, "for the greater good"? Probably not well which is why she went behind everyone's back.

And that's my theory! Thoughts?
