Kitten still vomiting and having soft stool after vet visit. Can’t afford another visit for a few days, what can I do?
My kitten has been having GI issues and I’m really worried. Looking for advice/experiences
My kitten Miso recently started having some stomach issues. Two days ago, she vomited twice and her stool became soft/loose, so I took her to the vet.
The vet examined her and said everything looked okay overall, normal temperature, gums, heart rate, etc. He thought it was likely GI irritation. He gave her three injections: one for vomiting, one for acid reflux/stomach irritation, and B12. He also put her on a special diet for a few days.
Since then, she hasn’t really gone back to normal. She is eating, but much less than usual, and her stool is still soft and blob-like. It’s not watery diarrhea, there’s no blood, and she isn’t straining.
Yesterday she threw up what looked like a hairball. I sent a video/photo to her vet and he said he was about 90% sure it was a hairball. This actually made sense because she was recently spayed, and after I removed her cone about three days ago, she spent basically the entire day grooming herself like crazy, so she probably swallowed a lot of fur.
She seemed okay afterward and didn’t vomit again that day. She’s still drinking, using the litter box, and she will play, but she gets tired and loses interest pretty quickly. She just seems a little “off” and not fully herself.
Today, however, she threw up again.
The part making this even harder is that for the next few days I genuinely cannot afford another vet visit. I only recently paid for her spay, and then this last vet visit also cost me quite a bit, so I’m basically out of options financially right now. I absolutely would take her back immediately if I could, but at the moment I’m trying to figure out what I can safely do at home while monitoring her and waiting until I’m able to afford another visit.
I’m not asking Reddit to replace a vet, and I will contact her vet and update him. I’m just really hoping to hear from people who have dealt with something similar. Could this still be her stomach recovering from the GI irritation + hairball? How long did it take your cat’s appetite and stool to return to normal?
Also, what specific signs would mean I absolutely cannot wait and need to find a way to get her seen urgently, even with the financial situation?
She also gets extremely distressed at the vet and screams when handled, so repeated visits are very stressful for her too.
Any advice or personal experiences would really help because I’m very worried and feel a bit stuck right now.
