i don’t think i should work in healthcare while like this, im so incompetent
I’m 25F. i work part time in healthcare as a support worker and i feel so incompetent, ive been here for a while now but if you were to see me you’d feel like i haven’t worked here longer than 3 months. Its like i forget everything, and relearn everything on my shift. i’m panicking and sweating every-time a nurse from another unit comes in and asks me anything, they could simply ask me “do you have a spare vitals machine?” i’ll start stuttering, my hands shaking and i look at my other coworkers who always then take over. doing simple tasks such as taking a patients vitals, their blood sugar, interacting with patients, i feel sick while doing it, im so scared ive done or said something wrong. i especially spiral with vitals i always do it more than once and still after i believe i’ve messed up somewhere, im like oh i diebt put it on correctly, its not tight enough.
Once i’m done with those tasks i immediately go to the bathroom for 10 minutes, have a cry while im trying to regulate my breathing. I do this multiple times only my shift. I feel so stuck i can’t do anything right. I’ll be asked questions about patients by other staff that i know the answers to but i cannot answer anything i just look at them stuttering. i feel useless, i am useless. i get told off often by the senior staff that im too timid i really dont know how to improve because this is me trying to mask.
I think i need to leave soon. but right now with how the job market looks it would so stupid of me to quit without something else. but i can’t find anything else. so i’m stuck here.
