New Player Needs Answer

I played a bit of World when it released (not much since) but I only used the Greatsword and Hunting Horn. I've been using the Charge blade a lil bit, and I noticed it has a block so how much can i rely on the block? Can I make a tanky kind of build blocking heavy hits?
