AITA My (23f) gf insulted me and then was hypocritical (22m) last night in person and now I feel really weird about her.
Context to the situation: we’ve been together for the past 2 years. She is an average sized person and I am a giant (hitting my head on doorframes and not being able to shop in regular clothes shops giant). I have a secure attachment style and she has an anxious attachment style.
After a long week at work I picked her up yesterday to spend the weekend together, when we got home we were chilling and out of no where she makes a comment about my saliva being a problem and that it’s something we have to work on.
This has been a thing that throughout our relationship she has commented about, often when we’re kissing but she’s never made such a big deal about it. It’s always just been a comment.
Now I point out that I’m a giant as everything about me is larger than normal and that’s not something that I can change. But her saying “we need to deal with this problem” made me feel really uncomfortable and pretty insulted.
Which I then pointed out and imitated what she was doing with a similar situation where i put her on the other side of it.
She then said well look at the difference of how I’m expressing it vs how you are…
At which point and I cut in and pointed out the hypocrisy of the situation. Me turning it around and putting her in the situation was too point out how it felt and why it’s not nice to say things like that.
I then went quiet because I just felt really wierd about her and the situation. I told her that i wanted some time to think about it and I’ll speak to her more later on.
We then run some errands and when we got back I sat her down and let her know how it made me feel how it was really weird that she said that and then tried to make me the one who was in the wrong, and that I didn’t like that.
In response to she just nervously giggled and said “awkward”
So I went quiet again waiting for a response, which didn’t come so we didn’t talk for 5 hours. And that’s not because I’m giving her the silent treatment (that shit is toxic as hell and not me), I just genuinely didn’t know what to say to her.
We went to bed and I said have you got anything to say to me about what happened or you want me to say anything. And she said I’ve not thought about it since.
[insert mind blown gif]
I was baffled, like what…
Reflecting on previous points like this in our relationship, she tends to be avoidant of facing situations like this when she’s done something that hurts me.
I’m now again at a point where I don’t know what to say, and I just feel really weird about it and I’m debating taking her home today.
TLDR: my gf wanted me to change something that I can’t, then tried to say that I was in the wrong for me turning the situation back on her.
