First gaming PC build, am I overthinking this?

Purchasing Advice - PC Build / Parts

Hey guys,

I'm putting together my first proper gaming PC and I'm probably starting to overthink some of the parts, so I wanted to get some opinions.

I'm not from the US and I'm buying from a local retailer, so prices/availability are a bit different.

I'll mostly play at 1440p High/Ultra. Mix of League, AAA games, RPGs, some FPS, etc. I'm not really into competitive gaming or chasing ridiculous FPS numbers. I mostly want something powerful that will last me a good few years, with decent temps and without being unnecessarily loud.

I'm aiming at around €2.1k–€2.3k, but obviously if I can get basically the same gaming experience for less I'd rather do that.

Current build:

  • Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Arctic Freezer 36 A-RGB
  • ASRock B850 Pro-A WiFi
  • Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16) DDR5-6000
  • Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming 16GB
  • Kingston NV3 1TB
  • Lian Li Vector V100R

The retailer originally offered the build with a Thermalright KG-850 850W Gold for about €2167 discounted (€2234 normally).

I'm a bit unsure about that PSU because I couldn't find much independent testing of the exact KG-850, so I was thinking about swapping it for an MSI MAG A850GL 850W.

That version is about €2279 before discount.

There's also the Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming OC for around €836 compared to €819 for the normal Gaming version, so another option would be MSI PSU + Gaming OC for roughly €2290 before discount.

So roughly:

  1. Gaming + KG-850 — €2167 discounted
  2. Gaming + MSI A850GL — €2279 before discount
  3. Gaming OC + MSI A850GL — €2290 before discount

A few things I'm not sure about:

  • Would you keep the 7800X3D + 9070 XT combo for 1440p or is the CPU overkill?
  • Would you be comfortable with the KG-850, or would you rather pay more for the MSI?
  • For only ~€17 difference, is there any worthwhile cooling/noise/build quality advantage with the Gaming OC, or should I just keep the normal Gaming?
  • For gaming, would you keep the Kingston NV3 or spend more for something like a KC3000?
  • The Vector V100R already has 3 side intake + 1 rear exhaust, with the Freezer 36 on the CPU. Is that enough for this setup or would you bother adding top exhaust fans?
  • Anything else here you'd change or consider bad value?

I'm basically trying not to turn a €2.1k PC into a €2.4k PC by going "well, it's only another €20-30" on every part.

I'm also wondering if I'm just overthinking all of this and could build something simpler/cheaper that would give me basically the same 1440p experience.

What would you do?
