Midwife moving into Health Project & Program Management. What should I focus on?

Hi everyone,

I'm a midwife and I'm planning to enroll in a Health Project & Program Management program this year.

My goal is to transition from clinical practice into roles like maternal health programs, hospital operations, and public health projects.

For people working as Health PMs / Program Managers:

  1. How valuable is a clinical background like midwifery when applying for PM roles in healthcare?

  2. Besides the degree, what skills or certifications made the biggest difference for you? PMP, data, budgeting?

  3. What types of projects do you work on day-to-day in hospital or NGO settings?

  4. Any advice on how to best position a clinical background when applying?

Would love to hear your experiences and any tips.

Thanks!
