He Doesn’t Want to Be an Autism Success Story. He Wants to Be Jared.

My son doesn’t dream of becoming an autism success story.
He wants to become Jared.
He wants to make people laugh, play games, try food, react, livestream, and build something around his own personality. Those dreams shouldn’t be reduced until they fit inside someone else’s definition of “realistic.”
Advocacy is not choosing a smaller, safer future for someone.
It is helping remove the barriers so they have room to choose their own—a healthy home, meaningful relationships, work that feels like theirs, and the freedom to discover who they want to become.
I don’t have every answer. I’m his father, and I’m still learning how to stand beside him without standing in his way.
Autistic people deserve full-sized lives.
Be their advocate, not their adversary. I am with you.
