I think I found a real business opportunity but I am scared to act on it. Sanity check? (i will not promote)
For the last 1.5 years I have been building internal ERP and CRM systems at a startup with 500+ employees and around $10M ARR. Working closely with the founder meant I saw the real operational problems: WhatsApp everywhere, spreadsheets running the business, and founders losing visibility.
Recently I met someone from another company, and halfway through the conversation I realized they operate exactly the way we did two years ago before we built our internal systems.
The weird part is I already know what they need because I have built it once.
So now I keep asking myself: if this problem is so obvious, why has it not been solved already? Odoo, Zoho, Frappe, and NetSuite all exist. Am I about to rebuild a commodity?
And if those tools are enough, why are so many profitable businesses still on Excel and WhatsApp? My guess is that generic ERPs rarely fit how a business actually works, and migrations are painful. But that is only a hypothesis.
The other challenge is distribution. I have no brand, no case studies, and no network. Just experience solving this problem.
I want to build my own company, but I cannot tell if I am being cautious or just scared.
Would love honest feedback, especially from founders who have lived this.
