Creaking when pedalling

I have just bought a new bike and halfway through my first ride the bike has a slight creaking sound when pedalling.
I was thinking this was going to be a horrible experience but I read a comment in a post the other day and it mentioned a loose boot on the rear wheel. I checked that and it was indeed a bit loose. Tightened it and no more noise.
Just thought I would post this for others who have a similar problem to check simple things before going down the bottom bracket rabbit hole.
