Toying with corp travel

Going on a work trip soon. Have young kids so don't get much time to myself at home. Will have a private hotel room but am flying with colleagues, would rather not check luggage in.

How risky is it to bring a small, rechargeable friend with me? Is it going to get whipped out by security or be super obvious on the x-ray?

One airport is a cap city, the other is a v small regional airport, mostly mining and agriculture.
