A while ago, I started building a small QGIS plugin for myself.
The original idea was pretty simple:
I wanted to create trench and utility cross-sections directly in QGIS and transfer them to Visio without spending ages manually measuring and rebuilding everything.
Well… it didn’t quite stay that small. 😄
Over time, it turned into **InfraSlice AI**, a QGIS plugin that now covers several parts of my daily workflow in utility and civil engineering planning.
At the moment it can, among other things:
create trench cross-sections and duct matrices directly in QGIS
import planned and existing infrastructure into cross-sections
export cross-sections for further editing and documentation
georeference PDFs and plans
automatically search for suitable reference points during georeferencing
still allow manual control points to be added and adjusted
automatically detect and follow routes/trenches on plans
organize utility requests and different map/portal sources in one workflow
The goal is basically to reduce repetitive manual work and keep as much of the planning workflow as possible inside QGIS.
I also put a lot of focus on privacy: the actual project data is processed locally on the user’s computer.
I’m currently looking for feedback from other QGIS users, GIS people and planners.
If anyone is interested, the plugin can be tested **for free and without obligation**.
I’d especially like to know:
**Would something like this actually be useful in your daily workflow?**
**What would you change or add?**
I can also share a short video showing the main features.
