I bought an apple magic Keyboard and Have decided to return it due to chat gpt

Discussion

It's impressive how chat gpt can give you the following insight.

There is actually a noticeable difference in the kind of mistakes you made on the two keyboards. Based on these two 60-second samples, the Apple keyboard seems to produce more timing/rhythm errors, whereas the mechanical keyboard produces more isolated finger-placement errors.

Error type🍎 Apple keyboard⌨️ Mechanical keyboard
Missing lettersQuite frequent: bega β†’ began, coffe β†’ coffee, relaxin β†’ relaxing, seein β†’ seeing, followin β†’ followingPresent, but fewer: street β†’ streets, talkig β†’ talking, ha β†’ had

Letters in wrong ordersotpped β†’ stopped, passengesr β†’ passengerswatied β†’ waited, colloer β†’ cooler

The biggest thing I notice on the Apple keyboard is your spacebar timing. For example:

watche deverything
out side
an dseveral

Those are interesting because you seem to know exactly what word you are typing, but your thumb is hitting Space slightly before or after your other finger finishes the word. That's more of a coordination/rhythm problem than not knowing where the keys are.

You also dropped several final letters on the Apple keyboard:

bega[n]
relaxin[g]
seein[g]
followin[g]

That suggests that when you're typing quickly on the Apple keyboard, you're sometimes moving on to the next key or pressing Space before the final keystroke has happened properly.

The Apple test also had several accidental repeated presses:

moved β†’ moveed
people β†’ peopple
street β†’ streeet

So there is a mixture of pressing some keys twice while failing to press other keys at all. That points towards your typing rhythm being a bit less controlled on that keyboard.

The mechanical keyboard mistakes look different. Most are very local:

waited β†’ watied
bus β†’ buws
and β†’ adnd
cooler β†’ colloer

Here, you generally keep the correct word structure and spacing, but an individual finger occasionally hits a neighbouring key, hits twice, or arrives in the wrong order.

So I'd describe your typing like this:

🍎 Apple:
Your brain appears to be getting slightly ahead of your hands. You rush from one word into the next, causing missing endings, early spaces and doubled letters.

⌨️ Mechanical:
Your word-to-word rhythm is better, but individual fingers occasionally make small positioning/order mistakes.

And that's important, because personally I'd consider the mechanical errors easier to improve. An error such as watied instead of waited is a very normal high-speed typing transposition. Your spacing and general rhythm remain intact.

The Apple errors like an dseveral and watche deverything interrupt the entire word boundary, which can be more disruptive while writing long documents.

So based specifically on error quality rather than just WPM, I'd currently give the advantage to the mechanical keyboard.
