Lease end - What to do if you want to keep it?

Question

I have a leased 2024 i4 eDrive35 that I received in March. This is my first ever lease so i have never had to go through the lease end process. Side story, it landed in the US 2 days before the bridge collapsed in Baltimore that the cargo ship had to travel under.

I leased it with the option of 12k/yr. And only realized 6 months later that I was paying for a lot more miles than I would ever need. My company allowed me to go almost fully remote. I only have to drive in once every other week. By the end of the lease, I will be averaging 8-9k/yr.

I love the car and figure with the lower than planned mileage, it should be worth slightly more than the estimated at the end of the lease.

What steps do I need to take to make the process as easy as possible? Are there any gotchas that I need to look out for? I assume getting a loan from my bank/credit union is the best option to take over payments. Anything else you recommend to maximize the value?
