Japan-based applicant - what actually gets you onto a project from outside the US?

I'm based in Japan and applied to the Generalist role on Sept 12. Finished the AI interview and the exercise the same day, status is under review.

My background, for context: 13 years in accounting and back-office work at a small Japanese company (bookkeeping, closing, legal, subsidy applications, board meeting operations), and I passed Japan's CPA exam. These days I also run operations for a couple of publicly owned facilities, and I build internal web apps on the side (React, Supabase). No prior AI training or annotation experience.

What I can't figure out from reading this sub is how the path actually works for someone outside the US. Three specific questions:

Q1) I saw this week's posting for Investment & Finance Expert at $245-280/hr, which requires US residence and a US bachelor's degree. Are there finance or accounting roles that non-US applicants can actually be selected for, or is the domain work effectively US-gated and Generalist the realistic entry?

Q2) For those of you selected from outside the US - did you get there by applying to many roles over time, or did one well-matched application do it?

Q3) Does a second language (Japanese, in my case) help on non-language roles, or is it only relevant for the explicitly language-tagged postings?

Any concrete experience is appreciated. Happy to answer questions about the Japan side if that's useful to anyone here.
