Barbell Pressing, Kettlebell Pressing, & Back :
Some of y'all know I'm in a gym right now, doing barbell + seated cable row + cardio (upright bike for calorie burn, concept2 rower oh how I love thee for conditioning) and as is my wont largely ignoring dumbbells...
I have not lifted a kettlebell in about a month and a half. Not once.
I figure that soon I will rotate them back in, and as at present my z press, military press, and incline bench are all three on fire it's gonna be gnarly when a kettlebell is back in hand...
See the fastest way to one arm press the 48kg kettlebell is to have a barbell press of 205lbs with 225+ being preferable.
I came into kettlebells with a 235lb clean & press 1rm, having doubled the 225lb press off of a clean as well.
And the quickest way to bottoms up press a kettlebell is to have a real strong wrist (I attribute mine to sledgehammer levering and some moving isometric simulation of the same) plus a press 1rm of +10% to +20% heavier than you're looking to bottoms up press.
The bottoms up press is my kettlebell pet lift.
Seeing how my barbell pressing is increasing, and knowing I will rotate back to kettlebell soon ish, I figure it will go much better with much more leeway between it and my 1rm barbell military press/z press.
To move past my current flair of "2x48kg bottoms up press" with more reps simply because 48kg became lighter (my wrist has always been solid for holding it, the governor for me on bup is shoulder strength).
In the gym I'm basically hitting a z press PR everytime I z press (which is most sessions, 2-4x/wk), while my military press and incline bench are both tying lifetime PRs or breaking them with the same regularity... basically every time I do them.
I know with kettlebells I z pressed 5 x dbl 40kgs, and well the ceiling is definitely raised already...
This whole post written to brag that after using the bathroom I no warmup lifted 2x1 on 225lb z press then a backoff set of 5x205lbs today before moving onto back and attempting a glute machine (to make it full body as is my wont of "Every Day Is Full Body Day").
5x205lb barbell z press > 5 x dbl 40kg kettlebell z press
Again the kettlebell performance ceiling has been raised.
Sometimes the answer is simply "get stronger". My kettlebell feats shall go further with a more developed barbell base.
Here's to strength y'all, and have a nice day.
*I'm kinda ignoring taking video right now, might have to pull out the camera for z press 275lbs and 10x225lbs when they happen (neither of which feels far off)... strength training since 2008, right now a lot of base built is really coming together for strength gains
