Why does imagination still feel like I’m witnessing it instead of living it?

Discussion

I’ve been into Neville’s teachings for a few years, and I’m trying to understand something about imagination.

I can visualize in first person, use familiar environments, see my hands, hear people, and even experience touch, but it doesn’t quite feel like my touch. It feels more like I’m witnessing a first-person scene than actually occupying a reality.

The closest I’ve gotten is what I’d call “there-ness” moments where the imagined scene feels more present than the 3D, almost like a dream. But even then, it still feels like an experience I’m having rather than something that feels truly mine.

I’m naturally pretty analytical and logical, so I wonder if I’m still observing and evaluating the experience instead of fully surrendering into it.
Lately I’ve been curious whether this is less about visualization ability.

Has anyone gone from witnessing imagination to actually feeling like they were in it and it belonged to them? What changed for you?
