Upgrading a 7+ year old system
I’ve had a Unifi network stack up and running for several years now – recently saw on the console that the UniFi Security Gateway will no longer receive updates for Unifi Network which prompted me to think about upgrading.
Use case –
- 1 gig fiber
- 4 hardwired Unifi Cameras
- 3 wireless Unifi Cameras
- 49 wireless devices (multiple TVs, few computers, kids on iPads – typical home setup) + several hardwired devices (e.g. PS5, Apple TVs, etc)
Current stack:
- Unifi Secure Gateway 3P
- Unifi Switch 16 POE (150W)
- CloudKey Gen2
- Unifi AC LR (Basement Wi-Fi)
- Unifi Nano HD (Upstairs Wi-Fi)
- Unifi AC Mesh (Patio Wifi)
Was thinking about upgrading / future proofing a bit with:
- Cloud Gateway Fiber
- Network Video Recorder Instant
- 2x U7 Pro Max (to replace indoor APs)
- U7 Pro Outdoor (to replace outdoor AP)
- UniFi 5G Backup
- Pro XG 24 PoE switch
I know this is probably overkill – but I’ve always been an enthusiast, tinkerer, etc. The switch probably has me jaw dropped the most in terms of cost – given my current switch has 1gb ports – is there really any reason to upgrade? Very interested in any recommendations – I’ve been doing some research but thought gut checking with the community could be wise.
