Tips for making cards look more professional

I know some people prefer the handmade look; but I prefer a more professional look but I struggle to achieve it.
I know there are things like foiling or letterpress but I don't want to invest in those right now.
So what tips do you have to make your card look extra good? Mats and layers? Extra bling?
