I can't believe I'm saying this but

Warhammer III

the Skaven need some love

The build up to Lord of the End Times has certainly been exciting but, at the back of my mind there's been a gnawing anxiety of what CA would do to the Skaven. I sat quaking in my boots awaiting the reveal that CA had juiced them to 11, totally khornifying the faction into an adversary so fierce you'd wish you were fighting dwarfs. However, the day has come and it seems that both the Skaven and I have been found wanting.

Listen I understand that Skaven were certainly the favored child of the last Warhammer installment but it's safe to say they've fallen behind a bit: their unit tiers are insulting even for a race that can immediately bring settlements to higher tiers (Censer Bearers are tier 5 but Chaos Chosen sit at tier 3 (and yes I know that skaven infantry should not be as good as chaos that isn't the point)), their tech tree is a complete mess, and the legendary lord's skill lines don't even pass muster for most generic lords nowadays. I understand the idea that we shouldn't accelerate powercreep anymore then CA does by themselves but, Skaven have been thoroughly left behind in a lot of respects and its disheartening to see that outside of the DLC content they're receiving, they get nothing. Skaven have long been criticized for "requiring" DLC but Lord of the End Times feels like it's taking that notion to its most extreme. If you want lords that keep up with WH3 powercreep you basically need the DLC since the verminlord skill trees are quite literally better then any of the skaven's legendary lords. I know it's too late for CA to churn out some sort of skaven rework but I hope their buildings, skills, and techs get a much needed look in the future.
